The playable demo for Square Enix’s action role-playing game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, has received an update that is said to bring an improvement to graphics in Performance mode. Read ahead to find out what has changed.
Earlier this month, the official Twitter/X account for Final Fantasy VII remake had shared that the recently released demo for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth would soon receive an update that would improve graphics when playing in Performance mode. It was also stated that this improvement in image quality would also be available in the game’s final release. The aforementioned update is now available, and we now have a screenshot comparison showing the visual differences.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Performance Mode Pre-Patch vs Post-Patch Graphics Comparison
A screenshot comparison (via Reset Era members Tetsujin, Metsuki, and Yibby) between the pre-patch (top) and post-patch (bottom) version of the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo running in Performance mode can be seen below.
The screenshots indicate that the anti-aliasing technique that had been implemented pre-patch has been modified to include edge sharpening that tends to have mixed results here. While it does reduce the relatively blurry look of demo prior to the patch, some edges now look visibly pixelated in certain light conditions. We hope that Square Enix improves its anti-aliasing to address the blurry look without having pixelated artifacts for the game’s launch on February 29, 2024.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set for release exclusively on PS5. Similar to its predecessor, the gameplay will blend real-time action with strategic and role-playing elements. The narrative unfolds immediately after the events of Remake. Players will take control of the mercenary Cloud Strife and a party primarily consisting of members from the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE. Together, they embark on a journey across the Planet to thwart the megacorporation Shinra’s exploitation of the Lifestream, the planet’s life essence, as an energy source. Additionally, they aim to defeat Sephiroth, a former elite SOLDIER, who plans to unite with the Planet to gain greater power.
