From Software’s New IP Elden Ring Is Coming To PS4, Xbox One, and PC

Elden Ring was leaked through a breach on the official server for Bandai Namco and it was confirmed for PS4, Xbox One, and PC after a cinematic trailer during Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference.

Elden Ring is a collaboration between Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin. It will be the largest game developed by From Software and it was confirmed to be a dark fantasy action RPG.

Despite the announcement, there is still no gameplay footage available to view for the game. The announcement trailer evoked a feeling of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series. It is is a pre-rendered cinematic hinting at the lore and establishing the world of the game which is widely different from Sekiro or the Souls series.

Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin have collaborated together on this new game and after the reveal, an interview of Miyazaki was posted on the official Xbox Wire website giving some details on the gameplay elements.

Elden Ring development was started after the work on Dark Souls 3 DLC ended. It was planned to be another new dark fantasy RPG that could let the developers do things that weren’t possible with the Souls series.

Miyazaki shared some details on the gameplay for Elden Ring. First, we get the confirmation that this is a third-person action RPG and unlike Sekiro, which has a focus on the action, Elden Ring focuses more on RPG aspects of the game. It will also offer melee-based combat while giving the choice of a wide variety of weapons, magic, and ways to engage enemies.

The game will continue the trend of creating a custom character that the player can customize to fit their own play style. As for the involvement of George R.R. Martin, the world of Elden Ring was constructed with “mythos and stimulus as a base” offered by the acclaimed writer.

While earlier rumors called this game open world, Miyazaki explained that it could mean that the game offers a large playing field so that players can go explore it on their own. While details were shared on the game, there is still no release date in sight but this was confirmed for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
