God of War Ragnarok Visuals Upgraded In New Gameplay Footage, Comparison Inside

Sony Santa Monica has shared some new gameplay videos from God of War Ragnarok giving a glimpse at the newly upgraded visuals.

In a blog post today, Sony Santa Monica revealed the accessibility features that are introduced in God of War Ragnarok and there are a ton of them. The game features color subtitles, audio descriptions, and a lot more customization to help with accessibility. It is similar to how Naughty Dog went above and beyond to implement the same in The Last of Us Part 2.

Tucked among the new details were two videos that provided an overview of the newly upgraded visuals of God of War Ragnarok. They showed two scenes from the game which were first seen in the reveal trailer. They have been updated with improvements ranging from facial to post-processing effects.

The new gameplay has been captured on the PS5 but it is hard to imagine there is such a huge difference between the old and new build of the game. It is natural to expect upgrades from a game in development as is the case here.

The original trailer had a lack of post-processing effects and filters making it look plain compared to the latest footage. The new color grading and fog effects make it feel like these characters are standing in a cold environment. The second footage featuring Atreus clearly shows how the facial animations have been improved and carry more impact now.

These small upgrades are always nice to see and it looks like God of War Ragnarok is headed for a release soon, as the game was originally targeting a launch in 2022 although no solid release date has been confirmed so far.

God of War Ragnarok is confirmed for the PS4 and PS5 and will be out later this year unless there is an unannounced delay.
