Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast have reportedly canceled the Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure game that was in development at Giant Skull, the studio founded by God of War III and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order director Stig Asmussen.
According to Bloomberg, the project was canceled during the early concept stage less than a year after it was officially announced.
A spokesperson for Wizards of the Coast told Bloomberg, “We assess concepts at every stage of development,” while also confirming the company remains open to future collaboration with the studio. “While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship,” the spokesperson added.
Asmussen also commented on the situation, saying he enjoyed working with Wizards of the Coast and is continuing discussions with both the company and other publishers regarding future opportunities. “Things are good at Giant Skull,” he said.
The project was originally announced in June 2025 as a major single-player action-adventure title set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Giant Skull had been developing the game using Unreal Engine 5, with the project positioned as a cinematic, story-driven experience.
The cancellation reportedly comes amid a broader shift in Hasbro’s digital gaming strategy. Despite the project ending early in development, both sides appear to have parted on positive terms, and Giant Skull remains operational while seeking new publishing partnerships.
