Warhorse Studios Confirms New Kingdom Come Project and Open-World Middle-earth RPG

Warhorse Studios has officially confirmed that it is simultaneously developing a new Kingdom Come project and an open-world RPG set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth universe.

The announcement came directly from the studio on social media, where it stated, “You might have heard the rumours, it’s time to reveal what we are working on.” The developer then confirmed two projects currently in development: “An open world Middle-earth RPG” and “A new Kingdom Come adventure.”

The studio added, “We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right.”

The reveal follows months of speculation surrounding Warhorse Studios after reports claimed the company was working on a large-scale Middle-earth role-playing game with a reported budget of around $100 million. The project is expected to take a more grounded and realistic approach to Tolkien’s universe, reportedly moving away from traditional fantasy spectacle in favor of a grittier interpretation inspired by the studio’s historical RPG design philosophy.

At the same time, Warhorse is continuing work on the Kingdom Come franchise following the commercial and critical success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II earlier in 2026. The studio has not clarified whether the newly announced Kingdom Come title is a direct sequel, spin-off, or a smaller standalone project.

Warhorse Studios originally gained recognition with Kingdom Come: Deliverance in 2018, a first-person RPG set in 15th-century Bohemia. The game became known for its emphasis on historical realism, survival mechanics, and technical melee combat systems that avoided fantasy elements entirely.
