Hideo Kojima Explains The Concept of “A Hideo Kojima Game” and Faces Backlash

by Ali Haider

Hideo Kojima has taken it to Twitter to explain why his games are labeled as “A Hideo Kojima Game” but this didn’t sit well with other industry figures.

In a tweet, Kojima shared his vision of what he thinks makes a game that he is involved in worthy of being labeled as “A Hideo Kojima Game.”

“A HIDEO KOJIMA GAME means the declaration of me doing concept, produce, original story, script, setting, game design, casting, dealing, directing, difficulty adjustments, promoting, visual design, editing, supervising the merch, ” said Kojima. “I don’t name this for titles that I don’t make original idea, game design or produce, ” he added.

Somehow his tweet explaining the concept behind his vision was more than enough to frustrate a lot of people who had nothing to do with the game. While it is understandable that a game’s development is never going to be a work of a single individual, there was no reason to lash out against Kojima for merely being upfront regarding his vision.

Several games industry professionals quoted his tweet to express their displeasure against Kojima only promoting his name, even though that was not the intention behind his tweet.

After leaving Konami, Kojima partnered up with Sony to create his development studio called Kojima Productions. Death Stranding is a brand new IP from Kojima Productions that will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was first announced in 2016 and will release on November 8, 2019.

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Kojima explained how he was able to make a new game in such a short amount of time, including revealing the number of game developers that worked on Death Stranding, which was relatively modest at 80. He is also getting some help for his game by using Decima game engine which was developed by Guerrilla Games.
