by Muhammad Ali Bari

Bethesda Softworks and MachineGames’ action adventure game, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, is now available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Read ahead to learn how both versions compare in terms of visuals.

In terms graphical settings, the PC version of Indiana Jones And The Great Circle is largely identical to the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions at the moment, though a future patch will add Path Tracing support to the platform. All versions have ray traced global illumination (RTGI) in effect. Though, the Xbox Series S version exhibits some clipping in lighting, reflections, textures, shadows and post-processing effects.

In terms image quality, the Xbox Series X version of Indiana Jones And The Great Circle operates at a dynamic resolution that maxes out at 4K (2160p), but commonly runs in the range of 1620p and 1800p. On the other hand, the Xbox Series S version runs at a dynamic resolution that maxes out at 1080p, but commonly runs in the range of 900p and 1080p. Meanwhile, the PC has the option to deliver native 4K on capable hardware. In addition, better image reconstruction options like DLSS, XeSS, and FSR are available on the platform.

With regards to performance, both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of Indiana Jones And The Great Circle target a frame rate of 60 fps, and are largely able to maintain it on a consistent basis. Meanwhile, the PC version offers the option to play at higher frame rates on capable hardware, and it also supports Frame Generation via DLSS3 to smooth out any visual inconsistencies due to fluctuations n performance.

All in all, Indiana Jones is well-optimized on all platforms, and extra credit goes to the development team for being able to maintain a largely consistent frame rate of 60 fps on consoles with RTGI enabled without significantly affecting image quality. Given the choice, the PC version is the way to go, as it can not only deliver better performance and image quality on capable hardware, but also Path Tracing via the day one patch on November 9, 2024.
