Pre-orders for Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics‘ Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered are performin “much stronger than expected”.
In its interim report for the second quarter of its fiscal year 2024/25 (July-September 2024), Embracer Group has revealed that Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered is performing much stronger on pre-orders so far than previously expected. This bodes well for the collection title’s launch sales, and, in turn, the potential future of the franchise.
As for whether this translates into the development of a Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 4 is anyone’s guess. The original developer of the series, Crystal Dynamics, was acquired by Embracer Group in May, 2022. Launch sales of Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered will play a pivotal role in the publisher’s intent to green-light such a project.
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered is a collection featuring updated versions of the classic action adventure games. The remastered collection offer high resolution textures, improved models and visual effects, a photo mode, an upgraded camera system, updated controls, better performance, and more.
The collection title is developed by Aspyr and is based on the original games from Crystal Dynamics. It will be released on December 10, 2024, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, priced at $29.99. Pre-orders are available now, offering a 10% discount until launch.
Marking the 25th anniversary of the original Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, the remastered collection revisits the iconic story of vampires, betrayal, and revenge in Nosgoth, now with enhanced visuals. Players can switch between the original graphics and the remastered versions on-the-fly, as well as toggle between the modern control scheme and the classic controls.
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1 is set 1,500 years after the events of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. It follows Raziel, a vampire lieutenant to the vampire lord Kain, who is executed by Kain but later resurrected by The Elder God. Transformed into a wraith, Raziel is tasked with becoming the Elder God’s “soul reaver” and seeking revenge against his former master. Raziel also wields the Soul Reaver sword, which shares its name with his new title.
