The next game from Xenoblade series developer Monolith Soft will be a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X, based on a new rumor.
Known insider NWeedle took to Twitter/X to share that Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition is set for release sometime this year in 2025. Furthermore, they hinted that developer Monolith Soft’s next title will be a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Back in May, 2022, the insider had correctly leaked the existence of Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. No release window was mentioned by them for the sequel. If we were to guess, the game may be released sometime during 2026 or 2027 depending on how far its development has progressed.
Back in August, 2024, Monolith Soft Director/CCO and Xenoblade Chronicles series General Director, Tetsuya Takahashi, had shared a series of job listings alongside a message on its official website, in which he revealed that the studio is working on a new role-playing game. He couldn’t go into details at the time, though he said that the game is a “new RPG.” The aforementioned title is taking on many new challenges compared to previous Monolith Soft titles. He mentioned that the content to be created is becoming more sophisticated, so the studio needs many talented people, which is why he has shared the recruitment post.
Later during the same month, Takahashi, had said that he believes in going on the offense rather than playing on defense, and looks in the direction of change rather than maintain. According to him, the next entry in the Xenoblade series will likely be something vastly different from what came before. He added that, in terms of presentation and music, he would like to make his next project something that will betray everyone’s expectations in a good way.
In Xenoblade Chronicles X, players explore the vast open-world planet of Mira, taking on various quests, unlocking new regions, and gathering resources across the planet’s five continents. The story focuses on the survivors of a human starship fleeing Earth after its destruction during an intergalactic battle.
