Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Reveals New Locale, Master Rank Content, and Nintendo Switch 2 Version

by Greg Martin

Capcom has shared new information on Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, the recently announced expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, while also confirming that the base game is currently in development for Nintendo Switch 2.

The update comes shortly after Ascendance was unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2026. In a newly released developer presentation, director Takuro Hiraoka and producer Ryozo Tsujimoto provided a closer look at several of the expansion’s major features and outlined what players can expect when it launches in 2027.

One of the biggest additions is a new region known as the Skybound Eyrie. Located above the Forbidden Lands, the area consists of floating islands scattered across the sky and decorated with ancient ruins. The locale is designed around expanded traversal options, allowing players to use their Seikret mounts to glide between the airborne landmasses.

The expansion will also introduce the Boost Bracer, a new piece of equipment that expands combat options across all 14 weapon types. According to the developers, the item grants access to additional attacks, combo opportunities, and movement abilities, giving hunters more flexibility when facing increasingly difficult encounters.

Capcom also confirmed that Ascendance will feature Master Rank content, bringing a new level of challenge for both newcomers and experienced players. The expansion’s story centers on the sudden emergence of Elder Dragons within the Forbidden Lands. Players will be able to begin the new storyline after completing the 7-star quest titled “Awaking from a Dream.”

New monsters are also on the way. The announcement trailer showcased a previously unseen monster group that fights using coordinated aerial attacks. Returning Elder Dragons will also be part of the expansion, including the fan-favorite Kushala Daora. Capcom said additional details on the new creatures and challenges will be shared at a later date.

Alongside the expansion news, the company announced that Monster Hunter Wilds is being developed for Nintendo Switch 2. No release window was provided for the new version, with Capcom stating that more information will be revealed in the future.

Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The game is also on sale across select platforms, with prices starting at $29.39.

The developer presentation also touched on Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, with Hiraoka and Tsujimoto reflecting on the role of Elder Dragons in the recently released RPG. The turn-based adventure is available now on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, while a free trial version with save data transfer support is offered on all platforms.
