NetherRealm’s upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot may feature unexpected guest characters from popular TV series.

Speaking during the latest episode of The Xbox Two, co-host Jez Corden, who is known for his sources in the games industry, stated that the Mortal Kombat reboot will feature guest characters from popular TV shows. If true, this wouldn’t entirely be surprising, as the fighting game series has featured unexpected guest characters from other mediums in the past, including Rambo, The Joker, Spawn, Jason, and The Terminator.

According to Corden, the guest characters he’s heard will get a spot on the Mortal Kombat reboot roster include Conan the Barbarian, Peacemaker and Homelander from The Boys. While the inclusion of these characters may sound rather unexpected, they’re likely to fit right into the violent, gore-filled slugfest that the series is known for.

Previously, the different editions that will be available for NetherRealms’ the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 as well as their price were leaked ahead of an official announcement. Twitter user BillbilKun, who is well-known for leaking games that are scheduled to be added to a variety of game subscription services, also revealed that the Mortal Kombat reboot will be called Mortal Kombat 1, and that it will be available for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Additionally, NetherRealm Studiios officially teased the Mortal Kombat reboot with a brand new teaser, with more news to follow soon. The game was officially teased on the series’ Twitter account. The teaser shows a clock ticking away, with the seconds hand coming to a halt at the digit ’11’. It then proceeds to skip ’12’ and goes directly to the digital ‘1’, suggesting the series has returned to the beginning of its cycle.

This isn’t the first time a reboot has been hinted at with regards to the 12th entry in the series. Since receiving a major update, the official Mortal Kombat website now includes character designs quizzes, and highlights on each character’s page. However, the interesting bit here is that the roster of characters featured on the site is from the original Mortal Kombat, and characters from future entries are nowhere to be seen, suggesting that the next entry may end up being another reboot.
