Fans of the iconic Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series may have reason to celebrate, as rumors of a new remaster are gaining traction. Professional skateboarder Tyshawn Jones recently hinted at his involvement in an unannounced Tony Hawk game remaster.
“I’m in a Tony Hawk coming out, that’s cool,” Jones said in a recent statement. “They got a new one they remastering so that’s about to come out, I was in the last one.”
While no official announcement has been made by Xbox or Activision, Jones’ comments suggest that a new remaster could be on the horizon. This follows the success of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, a critically acclaimed remaster released in 2020 that revitalized the beloved franchise.
The rumor aligns with earlier reports that Activision plans to continue working on the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. The company’s commitment to the franchise was highlighted during the series’ 25th anniversary last year. Tony Hawk himself took to Instagram to reflect on the legacy of the games, noting their unexpected impact on both skateboarding culture and the gaming industry.
“The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released exactly 25 years ago today. My intention and expectation for the game was mostly for the enjoyment of skateboarders, ” Hawk wrote. “I had no idea it would transcend a niche market to become a massive success and – as some have argued – change the course of skateboarding’s popularity (and possibly even skate trick evolution). It definitely changed the course of my life, and is a big reason that I get to ride my skateboard for a living to this very day.”
The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games, released between 1999 and 2002, are widely considered some of the most influential titles in gaming history. They not only introduced millions to the world of skateboarding but also established a high standard for sports-based video games.
If the rumors are accurate, a new remaster could feature updated graphics, improved mechanics, and potentially new content to excite both longtime fans and a new generation of players. However, details remain limited, and neither Xbox nor Activision has confirmed the project.
