The announcement of the Nintendo Switch successor, commonly referred to as the Switch 2, is set to happen on January 16, 2025, based on a new rumor.

Following a slew of speculation and leaks, including non-licensed accessory makers showcasing mock-ups and accessory prototypes, known insider and content creator Nate the Hate has posted a new video on his YouTube channel in which he claims to have the announcement date of the Nintendo Switch 2. As per him, the Mario maker’s next console will be officially revealed on January 16, 2025.

As per Nate’s information, the January 16, 2025, announcement will primarily focus on the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware itself. Unlike the 2016 Switch reveal, which highlighted games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this event will likely be without a strong software presence. Instead, Nintendo is expected to showcase the design, features, and functionality of its new console.

While the exact content of the reveal remains uncertain, Nate speculated that Nintendo may show some game footage or a brief tech demo. However, according to him, it’s unlikely that the presentation will dive deep into the console’s launch software lineup. He believes that a separate event focused on the Nintendo Switch 2 games lineup will follow in late February or early March, 2025.

According to Nate, the January 16, 2025 reveal is expected to be part of a calculated marketing strategy leading up to the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, which is expected sometime during the second quarter of 2025. He speculated about a potential release window between May and June, 2025, which would align with Nintendo’s fiscal year goals and prior console release patterns. This staggered approach to revealing the console mirrors the original Switch launch, where an October, 2016, hardware reveal was followed by a January, 2017, showcase of games, leading up to a March, 2017, launch.

As far as the official word goes, Nintendo remains committed to announcing the successor to the Nintendo Switch before the end of its current fiscal year.
