According to Gale, a few major third-party developers, which hadn’t anticipated the Nintendo Switch taking off the way that it did and didn’t have a AAA title for the console at launch back in 2017, are working on big launch window releases for its successor. He also mentioned hearing something positive from one third-party developer nearly a year ago. Fast forward to today, and there are now more than just one that are bringing major AAA titles to the unannounced platform.

As for when the Nintendo Switch 2 will get announced, Gale said that it is “shockingly close”, and that there is a “Nintendo 64%” chance that the console will be shown off later this year in 2024.

As for what these major AAA titles may be, earlier rumors had suggested that the entire Kingdom Hearts series, including Kingdom Hearts 4, may be released on the Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix is also rumored to have Final Fantasy VII Remake in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, and it was claimed that the port looks and runs just like the PS5 version on the unannounced console’s devkit. The porting process was said to have taken no time, and, as a result, it may end up being a launch title for the Switch 2. Similarly, it was claimed that the future lineup of classic reboots in development at SEGA will be headed to Nintendo Switch 2. Furthermore, a recent GDC 2024 survey taken by game developers who are actively involved in the development of upcoming titles revealed that some are part of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup.
