Nintendo Switch users will be prompted to download another new firmware update today. It is exciting to get these kinds of updates but is the new system software adding anything new?
Nintendo Switch continues to get updates that add minor features, or do basically nothing. It is similar to the approach taken by Sony for their PS4 firmware updates, but it is still an infuriating experience for users who want to enjoy some new features.
After releasing Nintendo Switch firmware update 8.1.0, the official support page was updated as well confirming the changes or the lack of it for a better word. Here is what you should expect after installing this new firmware for your Switch.

One of the main theories that usually concern such minor updates is that it is a way for Nintendo to keep piracy away from the hardware, even if it happens temporarily. They have similarly updated Nintendo 3DS recently but that seems to have done nothing important in term the changes that were implemented with the system software.
Nintendo has recently announced some of the upcoming games for the Switch hardware. They have confirmed that a sequel for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in development. They also shared a release date for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, which are out later this year. They confirmed that the new Animal Crossing has been delayed to early 2020, otherwise, it was slated to launch later this year as well.
