The latest Oblivion Remastered update on Nintendo Switch 2 has received a negative reaction from players, with multiple users reporting a noticeable deterioration in image quality after installing Patch 1.1. The update was released on September 17 and primarily focuses on crash fixes and other gameplay issues, but players say the game now looks significantly blurrier in both handheld and docked modes.
Screenshots from before and after the update show an obvious difference in image quality. Some describe the docked presentation as “much blurrier”, while others say the change was immediately noticeable after launching the game following the update.
Ghosting has also become a recurring complaint. Players say the effect is particularly visible when moving or turning with a weapon equipped, with some describing the combination of increased blur and ghosting as a major regression.
Visual Changes Are Not Listed In Patch Notes
The reported image quality changes have also caused frustration because they are not mentioned in Bethesda’s Patch 1.1 notes. The official update focuses on fixes for crashes involving areas and systems such as the map, camera, fast travel, quests, spell casting and waiting, alongside several gameplay and visual fixes.
Players therefore appear to be treating the reported downgrade as an unintended change rather than a confirmed deliberate reduction in image quality. Some have speculated that part of the game’s image reconstruction or another rendering component may have been affected by the update.
There has been no confirmation from Bethesda that the visual changes are intentional.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 11, 2026, several months after its original April 22, 2025 release on Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
