PlayStation will be holding a State of Play event in September, 2023 to showcase its upcoming lineup of games, based on the latest rumor.

Jeff Grubb, who is known for his connections in the game industry, took to Twitter to share that he’s heard about a State of Play event coming soon, suggesting that it may happen in the coming month in September, 2023. He added that he felt the recent announcement from Sony regarding a price hike for all tiers of the PS Plus subscription was a lead-in for the forthcoming State of Play event.

Additionally, Kojima Productions Game Director Hideo Kojima has shared a tweet in which he appears to be editing footage for a brand new trailer, possibly for Death Stranding 2. Given that Death Stranding is a PlayStation IP, Kojima may be preparing a trailer to showcase at the State of Play event that, as per Grubb, is set to happen sometime soon, possibly in September, 2023. Of course, this is merely speculation at this point, and only time will tell whether the digital event will happen next month and if the game will make an appearance there.

The aforementioned price hike for all PS Plus tiers came as rather unexpected. Details regarding the new prices for PlayStation Plus 12-month subscription plans can be seen below.

  • PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription
    79.99 USD | 71,99 Euro | 59.99 GBP | 6,800 Yen
  • PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription
    134.99 USD | 125,99 Euro | 99.99 GBP | 11,700 Yen
  • PlayStation Plus Premium 12-Month Subscription

According to Sony, the new prices for the 12-Month subscription will remain at a discounted rate when compared to purchasing the 1-Month or 3-Month subscriptions over a 12-month period. For current 12-month subscribers, this price increase will not take effect until their next renewal date that occurs on or after November 6. However, any membership changes made on or after September 6, such as upgrades, downgrades or buying additional time, will update the plan reflecting new prices.
