God of War Ragnarok is a 2022 action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Released globally on November 9, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, it marked the series’ first cross-generation launch. A Windows version followed on September 19, 2024. Serving as the ninth installment in the franchise and the direct sequel to the acclaimed 2018 God of War, the game concludes the Norse mythology arc of the series. Set in ancient Scandinavia and drawing inspiration from Norse mythology, Ragnarok continues the story of Kratos, the Spartan warrior-turned-god, and his teenage son, Atreus. Following the events of the previous game, the duo embarks on a perilous journey to thwart Ragnarök, the apocalyptic event prophesied after Kratos’ fatal confrontation with Baldur, the Aesir god.
