New details regarding Capcom’s unannounced Resident Evil Zero Remake have surfaced through longtime Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, who claims the project underwent a significant reboot during development.
The discussion began after a fan expressed concern that the team behind Resident Evil 3 Remake might be handling the project. Responding on social media, Dusk Golem stated, “It got rebooted mid-dev & Capcom Div 1 is currently leading it post reboot.”
If accurate, the claim would mark a notable shift in development leadership. Capcom Division 1 is the internal team responsible for both Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake, two of the franchise’s most acclaimed modern releases. By contrast, Resident Evil 3 Remake was developed with support from external studio M-Two and received a more mixed reception from fans due to its shorter campaign and omitted content.
Dusk Golem also recently indicated that he is particularly excited for both Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Veronica to receive the remake treatment. “I will say, while I loved Resident Evil: 2 Remake & 4 Remake, I’m honestly quite a bit more excited in hype levels for Code Veronica & Zero to be remade. I have numerous reasons for feeling that way, but even I’m a bit surprised at how excited I’m turning out to be for them,” he wrote.
Originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, Resident Evil Zero serves as a prequel to the events of the first Resident Evil. The game follows Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen as they investigate a series of mysterious incidents aboard a train and within an Umbrella training facility hidden in the Arklay Mountains. It is remembered for its Partner Zapping mechanic, which allows players to switch between two protagonists, as well as its decision to remove the traditional item box system.
