Sony Interactive Entertainment is offering select users up to 400 US Dollars when they trade in their PS5 with 2 or more DualSense controllers.
The trade in offer was recently received by ResetEra member JAY_HORROR via an official “From PlayStation” message sent directly to his PlayStation Network (PSN) account, encouraging him to trade in his PS5 through Back Market. According to the message, eligible users can receive up to 400 US Dollars for trading in their PS5, with the advertised amount being based on a standard PS5 console accompanied by 2 or more DualSense controllers in Grade 0 condition. Sony Interactive Entertainment is promoting the offer as a straightforward way to sell an existing console and receive payment directly into a nominated bank account.
The promotional message is titled, “Get an offer fast | Trade-in made easy,” and it encourages recipients to check how much their console is worth through Back Market’s trade-in service. It’s worth noting, however, that the 400 US Dollar figure is not a guaranteed payout. As per the disclaimer included in the message, the advertised amount represents the average promised trade-in price. The calculation is based on trade-in orders created between August 23 and September 22, 2026. Actual offers may vary depending on the PS5 model, its physical condition, storage capacity, included accessories and the refurbisher’s inspection. All transactions are also subject to Back Market’s Trade-In Terms and Conditions.
The message appears to be targeting inactive PSN users, suggesting that Sony Interactive Entertainment may be looking to make these PS5 consoles available to new customers who may inclined to spend more on the platform. Recently, Microsoft also asked inactive Xbox Series X|S users to trade in their consoles at partner retailer Best Buy for up to 375 US Dollars back. The company targeted players who have moved on to gaming on PC or other platforms, encouraging them to turn their dormant consoles into a gift card through a simple trade in program at partner retailer Best Buy.
