Microsoft and Bethesda Softworks’ upcoming action role-playing game, Starfield, has been rated ‘Restricted’ by the Australian Classification Board.
In addition to revealing that Starfield has been rated as ‘Restricted’, the listing states that it will feature interactive use of drugs. The classification also notes that the game features “moderate impact” language and themes, “strong impact” violence, “very mild impact” nudity, and no depiction of sex. “Interactive drug use” is listed as the primary reason for the ‘Restricted’ rating.
The Industry Details section of the listing states that Starfield is recommended for players of age 18 and above, with ‘interactive drug use’ highlighted in the Consumer Advice category. Although the listing mentions PC and Xbox One as the game’s platforms, the latter is stated in error and the game will be available on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in addition to PC. Ratings from other classification boards, such as ESRB and PEGI are still listed as pending, and will likely be updated in the weeks to come.
Recently, Bethesda Softworks announced the release date for Starfield. In addition, the developer also announced that a Starfield Direct will take place on June 11, 2023, which is expected to provide further details regarding the game. Fans have been eager to know when Starfield would see the light of day. The wait finally came to an end with the announcement that the game will hit store shelves on September 6, 2023.
Starfield arrives a bit later than expected, though that is probably for the better, as prior games from the studio are known to be buggy at launch. The next few months should give Bethesda the time and opportunity to iron out any glaring bugs that are present in the game’s existing build.
Starfield is set in an area that extends outward from the Solar System for approximately 50 light-years called The Settled Systems. The Colony War, which took place in the year 2310, was a conflict between the United Colonies and Freestar Collective, the game’s two biggest factions.
