Obsidian has accidentally leaked the release date of Avowed, which was shown during the Xbox Showcase. It is still slated for launch in 2024.
The leaked release date was originally disclosed in a blog post that accompanied the reveal of Avowed’s new story trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The blog post had a message by Carrie Patel, the Game Director at Obsidian Entertainment, stating: “The last few months at Obsidian Entertainment have been fast-paced and exciting. Since we saw you at the Xbox Developer Direct this past January, we’ve been busy with Avowed getting it ready for release on November 12, 2024. Today, we’re thrilled to have revealed our first-ever story trailer at Xbox Games Showcase 2024, and to talk with you more about what we’ve shared.”
Shortly after the release date was posted, the blog post was swiftly edited to remove any mention of the specific launch date. The revised message now reads: “The last few months at Obsidian Entertainment have been fast-paced and exciting. Since we saw you at the Xbox Developer Direct this past January, we’ve been busy with Avowed. Today, we’re thrilled to have revealed our first-ever story trailer at Xbox Games Showcase 2024, and to talk with you more about what we’ve shared.”
Here is a screenshot of the original blog post that mentioned the release date. You can still see it with the Way Back Machine archives.
Avowed is an upcoming first-person fantasy action RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment, set in the fictional world of Eora, first introduced in the Pillars of Eternity series. In Avowed, you play as an envoy from Aedyr, sent to the enigmatic Living Lands to investigate a plague spreading across the island.
Avowed is confirmed to launch on Xbox Series S|X and PC, with the game also being available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. Despite being shown during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, it just had a generic release window of 2024.
