The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 beta is now available, and we now have a reasonable idea of how the game will perform come launch on both the PS4 and PS5.
In terms of visual fidelity, the PS5 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 takes the lead over the PS4 and PS4 Pro, with better lighting, geometry, shadows, and textures, though the differences are not significant. The PS4 Pro and base PS4 versions largely share the same settings. It’s also worth noting that the war mode has a lower resolution and lower graphic details compared to the classic multiplayer modes across all platforms.
In terms of image quality, the PS5 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 runs at a resolution of dynamic 4K (2160p) in 60Hz mode and dynamic 1440p in 120Hz mode. Meanwhile, the PS4 Pro runs the game at dynamic 1512p, and the base PS4 version runs at dynamic 1080p.
With regards to performance, the PS5 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 targets a frame rate of 60 fps in 60Hz mode and 120 fps in 120Hz mode. The PS4 Pro and base PS4 versions both target a frame rate of 60 fps, though the latter exhibits tearing issues at the top of the screen and both have difficulty maintaining completely stable performance.
All in all, the PS5 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 delivers substantially better performance in 120Hz mode over the game running on PS4 and PS4 Pro. That said, it is undoubtedly a cross-gen game, and the graphical differences are not significant.
