Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, with the next entry in Infinity Ward’s rebooted series set to launch on October 23, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The game’s campaign centers on a large-scale conflict across the Korean Peninsula after North Korea launches a full invasion that threatens global stability. The story follows a squad of young South Korean soldiers fighting across collapsing front lines, while Captain Price operates independently in pursuit of those connected to the conflict.
According to Activision, the campaign will feature three acts and take players across multiple locations including Korea, Mumbai, New York, Paris, and Russia. Returning characters include Captain Price, Valeria, and Shadow Company alongside several newly introduced figures connected to the South Korean military.
Infinity Ward described Modern Warfare 4 as a darker and more grounded continuation of the rebooted storyline, with missions ranging from trench warfare and urban assaults to SAS night raids and large-scale combat operations.
On the multiplayer side, Activision confirmed the return of several long-requested features. The game includes classic red dots on the minimap, map voting, Theater Mode, a traditional Prestige progression system, and the classic perk system. Gameplay adjustments include a revised movement model featuring a new mantle system, ledge hanging, and slide canceling.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch with 12 core 6v6 multiplayer maps alongside Gunfight and Big War modes. Players will also be able to customize operators and streaks independently through loadouts.
DMZ also returns in a revamped form, with Activision describing players as “off-the-books assets” operating behind enemy lines where extraction decisions and objective management play a central role in each deployment.
The announcement marks the franchise’s first confirmed Nintendo platform release in over a decade following the Wii U version of Call of Duty: Ghosts in 2013.
