CD Projekt Red has offered an update on the latest installment in The Witcher series, The Witcher 4, clarifying the involvement of Geralt in future installments.
Speaking during an interview, Sebastian Kalemba, director of the new The Witcher saga, stated that fans will have to wait some years before they can get their hands on the next entry. He clarified that The Witcher 4 will be an “excellent” entry point for both newcomers and diehard fans of Geralt, suggesting that the protagonist’s story and legacy will continue in some shape or form.
Regarding the creative direction that the new Saga will take, Kalemba mentioned that the development team at CD Projekt Red wants to continue in the same direction it had previously taken. He mentioned that some elements of the lore need to be expanded, though the world and setting remain the same and the creative team can’t go beyond certain limits. At the same time, he mentioned that it is clear that the studio will have to try and cater to a new audience.
He mentioned that The Witcher 4 will be released after a few years and after many years since the arrival of The Witcher 3. Therefore, he stated that the creative team can’t just target the series’ diehard fans and that there is a need to foster a new community and make the game an “excellent” entry point for all players, without forgetting those who are fond of the original trilogy.
The interview was originally conducted in English and then translated into Italian, which may have led to some inaccuracies. Regarding the involvement of Geralt, Kalemba later clarified to GRYOnline that The Witcher 4 and future installments will cater both to new players, those who have not yet had the opportunity to play the previous installments, and to diehard fans of Geralt and his adventures.
Previously, it was revealed that more than 60% of the development team at CD Projekt is currently working on The Witcher 4.
