Diablo Immortal has been banned in China according to a Reddit user from the country, who claims to have an explanation on the matter. If true, this ban would come as a huge disappointment for the game’s fans across China.
According to the Reddit user, an individual working on the Diablo Immortal’s marketing team, who has access to the game’s official social media account, ended up speaking on some sensitive topics.
The individual used the official Diablo Immortal social media account to post a thread which states, “When would THE BEAR fall off the seat?” According to the Reddit user from China, the person from the marketing team was referring to Chairman Xi.
It’s currently not known whether this was done intentionally or the person forgot to switch back to his personal social media account before making the aforementioned sensitive comments, but this has ultimately led to Diablo Immortal getting banned in China as per the Reddit user.
The social media thread spread like wild fire on the internet in China, and people saw it as an open act of provocation, and the locals were eager to know what the game‘s fate would be under these circumstances. As a result, the Diablo Immortal marketing department was completely shut down in China, and Chinese Internet technology company Netease itself was heavily affected as well.
According to the Reddit user from China, Netease may not receive a license to host games on its servers for the next 3 years. However, they are unsure if this bit of information regarding Netease is accurate. If true, however, this ban would not only affect Diablo Immortal, but also other existing and future games from Activision Blizzard, including Diablo 4, Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft Dragonflight. It may even force Blizzard to change its internet partner in China.
