Nintendo held a brand new Nintendo Direct on February 14 during which they also showed new footage for Dragon Quest XI S and confirmed launch in the Western market this year. Along with the footage, some screenshots were also shared by Nintendo.
Dragon Quest XI S is basically the definitive version of Dragon Quest XI that will be published by Nintendo for the Western release of the game. It includes newly added character-specific stories, the option for increased battle speed, fully orchestrated field and battle music, and the ability to switch between HD and retro-inspired 16-bit visuals.

The official screenshots that were released after the announcement show that while there is a minor downgrade for the visuals, it still looks pretty good. It is more noticeable when played on a big screen but that shouldn’t be an issue when using the portable mode of Nintendo Switch hardware.
Dragon Quest XI was also released for the Nintendo 3DS. It was a different version than the PS4 or PC release with old-school 3D visuals and the same retro 16-bit style that will be returning in the Nintendo Switch version. If you want to experience the best way to play Dragon Quest XI, it will be worth the worth to get Dragon Quest XI S.
While there is no official release date set for it, the game will target Fall 2019 as its release window which makes it more than one year since the release of the PS4 and PC version.
