Dune: Awakening Launches on Consoles September 22

by Greg Martin

Funcom has announced that Dune: Awakening will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, 2026, bringing the open-world survival game to consoles alongside a substantial update that will also enhance the PC version. The developer describes the release as the most complete version of the game to date, incorporating over a year of updates and new features.

One of the headline additions is the introduction of a full single-player mode. For the first time, players will be able to experience the entire game from start to finish without participating in multiplayer. The mode includes scalable difficulty settings and extensive customization options, allowing players to adjust progression rates, resource gathering, combat difficulty, and other gameplay parameters.

The September release will also complete the game’s main narrative with the conclusion of Book One. Funcom says players will be able to experience the cinematic storyline in its entirety, culminating in a dramatic finale that wraps up the current chapter of the Arrakis saga.

Console players will receive the same content available on PC, with controls and interface elements optimized for gamepads. Funcom is targeting 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X through Performance Mode.

In addition to the new content, the console launch includes all major improvements introduced since the PC version debuted. These include optional PvP systems that allow players to experience the game entirely through PvE activities, even within the Deep Desert and faction conflict systems. Funcom has also reworked the endgame experience, expanded the story, added new locations, and implemented a wide range of quality-of-life improvements.

Other notable additions include tools that prevent players from losing progress after extended absences, self-hosted server support on PC, character re-customization options, and the removal of several previously restrictive systems such as taxes.

Pre-orders are available now across PlayStation and Xbox platforms. The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99, while the Deluxe Edition costs $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition is available for $89.99. Players who pre-order the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition will receive early access benefits alongside other bonuses.

Funcom also confirmed that Dune: Awakening will join Xbox Game Pass on September 22. The game supports Xbox Play Anywhere functionality, enabling shared progression between Xbox consoles and the Microsoft Store version. Additional support has been confirmed for Xbox Cloud Gaming and the ROG Xbox Ally handheld platform. The title is also Steam Deck Verified and available through GeForce Now.

Looking beyond launch, Funcom revealed plans for a major free content update later this year. The update will introduce the Polar Cap, a new survival-focused region located at Arrakis’ frozen pole. The area will feature unique environmental hazards, mechanics, and content distinct from the existing Hagga Basin map.

Originally inspired by Frank Herbert’s novels and Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptations, Dune: Awakening blends survival mechanics, crafting, exploration, RPG progression, and multiplayer systems into a large-scale open-world experience set on Arrakis. With the addition of single-player support and the completion of its first major story arc, the September release marks the game’s biggest update yet.
