English voice recording for Part 3 of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy appears to have begun.

Cody Christian, the voice actor behind Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy protagonist Cloud, recently shared a photo of himself in an Instagram story (via the Reset Era forums) in which he is seen at a recording studio to perform voice overs for an unknown project.

The photo caption reads, “so happy to be back with my bestie”, and is accompanied by an image of Cloud wielding the buster sword, suggesting that Cody’s voice recording session is for part 3 of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. This would further imply that the game’s development is further ahead than previously thought.

The last we heard about the third entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy was back in December, 2024, when game director Naoki Hamaguchi shared an update during an interview with Famitsu. He stated that the team, including himself, is currently working hard on the game. According to him, development is “progressing smoothly”, though he asked fans to wait a little longer for any new information to be revealed.

As for when fans will get to hear more details about the game, Hamaguchi said during an earlier AMA that he was unable to offer an exact time frame, but he assured that there’s more to come with the Remake project and said that he hoped to be able to release more information in the future. He was also asked whether they see Part 3 as the final entry in the Final Fantasy VII universe, or if they are interested in creating smaller scope games focusing on individual characters like in Episode Intermission or even a full-fledged continuation of the main story, given all the new ideas explored in the trilogy that can be expanded or continued. In response, Hamaguchi said that the development team is focusing on Part 3 at the moment, so they don’t have plans for any additional DLC or episodes at this time. However, he added that if there’s strong demand from the fan base after part 3’s release, they will consider the possibility.
