Square Enix has shared a new sales milestone for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. They have confirmed that the game has shipped 5 million copies.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake opened to a new sales record with 3.5 million copies sold in just three days of its launch. This included retail and digital sales. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, retail sales were lower while the digital sales were higher.

Today, Square Enix has shared another sales milestone for Final Fantasy VII Remake confirming that the game has now sold 5 million copies across retail and digital. This milestone has been shared after three months of the launch of the original game.
Square Enix has cited lower than expected retail sales for Final Fantasy 7 Remake when they disclosed their results for the latest fiscal quarter, but they also talked about the higher ratio for the digital sales which could have made up for the shortage in the retail sales.

Final Fantasy VII is a multi-part remake. The first entry was released on the PS4 while it is at the end of its life cycle. The subsequent games will be released when PS5 is already out so there is a good chance that they will be cross-generation. Square Enix will disclose their future plans for the remake once they announce a sequel for the remake.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is out now for PS4. It is a timed exclusive for PS4. This exclusivity deal will end in April 2021.
