Final Fantasy Creator Sakaguchi Is Working On a New Dark Fantasy Game

The creator of the Final Fantasy series, Hironobu Sakaguchi, is currently working on a brand new dark fantasy themed game.

Japanese publication Famitsu asked a number of game creators involved in the production of popular games about their aspirations for the year 2023. In his response, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi stated that he had considered retiring, but he will instead try to go at it one more time with a brand new project.

Sakaguchi-san dropped some hints regarding his new project in his response to Famitsu. He said that his next title will be a dark fantasy game, and he has already started writing the scenario. It sounds like the game is far from release at this point, though the prospects of a dark fantasy game from Sakaguchi-san are exciting nevertheless.

The Final Fantasy creator also shared that he’s been playing Final Fantasy XIV, and that he will never stop playing the game.

Meanwhile, the latest entry in the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XIV, is said to showcase the power of the PS5, according to the developer. During a special Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer stream, Naoki Yoshida said that everything seen in the recent “Revenge” trailer for Final Fantasy XVI was all real-time and that the game will showcase the power of the PS5 hardware.

According to Yoshi-P, the latest trailer features real-time rendering in its entirety, and that the camera can be turned at any time to reflect the fact. He said that Final Fantasy XVI has now become a game that truly shows off what the PS5 hardware is capable of. Indeed, the latest entry in the long-running Final Fantasy series is shaping up to be quite the looker, and fans can’t wait to get their hands on the game later this year on June 22, 2023. It will be a timed PS5 exclusive for six months based on the promotional message seen during the official trailer, and it is possible that the PC version will follow after this period has ended.
