Former Hellblade director and Ninja Theory co-founder has offered an explanation regarding his departure from the now Microsoft-owned studio.

Tameem Antoniades, former Hellblade director and Ninja Theory co-founder, took to Instagram to confirm the recent revelation that he is no longer working at the studio. He mentioned exhaustion as the primary reason for his departure.

Antoniades stated that he was exhausted, proud and satisfied, and was ready to step off from his duties at Ninja Theory after the development of Hellblade was completed. However, he stayed on for two more years to make sure the foundations were in place to fulfill the company’s mission to craft life-changing art with game-changing tech, which, as per him, fans will see in Hellblade 2 very soon.

The Hellblade director felt proud of and grateful to his co-workers at Ninja Theory, and he wanted everyone to know that the studio is safe and sound and in the best possible hands. He gave a shout to Microsoft for taking care of the studio, and letting the development team become who they are today.

Antoniades was rather vague about what he’d do next, stating that he’ll always be a ninja. As for whether this means he’ll soon be joining Nioh developer Team Ninja is anyone’s guess, but we’re certainly enticed by the possibility of something like that happening.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 serves as the sequel to 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and is set to launch for Windows and Xbox Series X/S on May 21, 2024. The game retains the third-person action adventure format of its predecessor and further expands upon aspects like puzzle-solving with runes and exploration of Senua’s mental state. It introduces a new combat system that promises increased dynamism and realism. Additionally, the game delves further into Norse mythology and history, expanding on Senua’s background and connections.
