Forza Horizon 6 has achieved a rare milestone for Xbox in Japan, becoming the first Xbox title in more than three years to appear in Famitsu’s weekly top 30 physical game sales chart.
According to sales information shared by Genki_JPN, Forza Horizon 6 ranked as the No. 26 best-selling physical game in Japan during the latest reporting period. The last Xbox game to chart in Famitsu’s physical top 30 was Forza Horizon 5 in 2023. Prior to that, the most recent Xbox title to reach the chart was Final Fantasy XV in November 2016.
The result marks a notable achievement for Microsoft’s gaming division in a market that has traditionally been dominated by Nintendo and PlayStation platforms. Xbox software rarely appears in Japan’s physical sales rankings, with many players in the region opting for digital purchases or subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass.
Released in May 2026, Forza Horizon 6 takes the racing franchise to Japan for the first time, a setting that had long been one of the most requested by fans. Developed by Playground Games, the title features the largest map in the series and includes a stylized recreation of Tokyo alongside mountain roads, seasonal weather changes, and a strong focus on Japanese automotive culture.
The game’s emphasis on local car culture appears to have resonated with Japanese players. Forza Horizon 6 includes more than 550 vehicles, touge-inspired drift events, and environments inspired by iconic locations such as Shibuya Crossing and Mount Fuji. The title also returns to the series’ traditional progression structure, where players build their reputation from newcomer to festival champion.
While Xbox continues to face challenges in Japan’s physical retail market, Forza Horizon 6’s appearance in the Famitsu top 30 represents a significant breakthrough. The achievement suggests that the franchise’s move to Japan may have helped attract a broader audience in the region and delivered one of Xbox’s strongest physical retail performances in years.
