Xbox Delays Fable to February 2027, Cites Packed Holiday Release Schedule

Xbox has officially delayed Fable, with the highly anticipated reboot now set to launch in February 2027 instead of its previously announced Autumn 2026 release window.

The announcement was made through Xbox’s official social media channels, where the company said the decision was driven by its broader release strategy for the remainder of 2026.

“This year is packed with incredible games for XBOX players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer and Grand Theft Auto VI,” Xbox said. The company added, “In order to plan our game launches through the holidays, in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves.”

Xbox also confirmed that fans will not have to wait long to see more of the game, stating, “We’re excited to be giving players a major new look at Fable, as well as our broader lineup, at XBOX Games Showcase on June 7.”

The delay follows recent speculation that the game’s launch plans were under review. Earlier reports from industry insider Jeff Grubb suggested that Xbox was considering adjustments to Fable’s release window due to concerns surrounding the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. According to Grubb, the game had reportedly been pushed internally, with Xbox still exploring a 2026 launch while evaluating the impact of Rockstar Games’ blockbuster release.

The official statement appears to support the idea that scheduling concerns played a role in the decision. Rather than citing development challenges, Xbox pointed to an unusually crowded holiday lineup and the desire to give Fable a standalone release window.

Developed by Playground Games, Fable serves as a reboot of Microsoft’s long-running fantasy role-playing franchise. Set in the world of Albion, the game features a new protagonist and promises player-driven choices that influence both the story and the world around them.

With the delay now confirmed, Xbox’s 2026 lineup remains one of the company’s busiest in years, while Fable shifts into early 2027 as one of Microsoft’s biggest planned releases for the following year.
