Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty has shared new details on Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Games Showcase while addressing the recent decision to delay Fable to February 2027.
Speaking during the latest episode of The Official Xbox Podcast, Booty emphasized that the delay was not the result of development issues. Instead, he explained that Xbox wants Playground Games’ RPG to launch during a period where it can receive greater attention from players. He noted that the studio is making strong progress on the project and confirmed that Fable will still appear during the Xbox Games Showcase, giving fans a fresh look at the game despite its revised release date.
Much of the discussion focused on Xbox’s broader first-party roadmap. Booty described 2026 as a significant year for the company, highlighting a lineup that includes Halo: Campaign Evolved, Minecraft Dungeons II, Gears of War: E-Day, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. According to him, the ability to maintain a steady flow of major releases is the result of years of planning and coordination across Microsoft’s portfolio of studios.
Booty also outlined the structure of this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, explaining that the presentation will remain heavily focused on games and the teams creating them. Rather than concentrating on broader business initiatives, the event will spotlight upcoming releases, development talent, and the creative work taking place across Xbox’s studios.
One of the key components of the event will be the Gears of War: E-Day Direct, which follows the main showcase. Booty said the presentation will offer a deeper look at the game’s development, covering areas such as audio design, animation technology, motion capture, and storytelling.
The Xbox executive revealed that preparations for the showcase began late last year and described the current period as one of the busiest times on the company’s annual calendar. He praised the teams responsible for coordinating announcements, producing trailers, and assembling the event, while suggesting that several notable reveals and updates are planned.
Booty also confirmed that Xbox will continue clearly identifying platform availability for showcased titles. The approach follows the transparency adopted during recent events such as Developer Direct and Partner Preview, where platform information was displayed alongside game announcements.
One subject that will not be addressed during the showcase is Helix. Booty stated that there are currently no Helix-related announcements planned, explaining that Xbox wants to ensure it has the right strategy in place before discussing the initiative publicly.
Based on Booty’s comments, this year’s Xbox Games Showcase is set to focus squarely on Microsoft’s software lineup over the next twelve months. With updates expected on titles including Fable, Gears of War: E-Day, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Minecraft Dungeons II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Xbox appears intent on making its upcoming slate of games the centerpiece of its messaging heading into the second half of 2026.
