Atomic Heart is a first-person shooter developed by the Russian studio Mundfish and published by VK Play, Focus Entertainment, and 4Divinity. The game is set in an alternate history version of the Soviet Union during the 1950s, initially portrayed as a retrofuturistic utopia that quickly descends into dystopia following a robot uprising. The game was released on February 21, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Combat in Atomic Heart involves shooting and slashing with improvised weapons. The game features a variety of enemies, including mechanical, biomechanical, biological, and airborne types. The game includes a crafting system that allows players to build weapons from metal parts collected from robots or household appliances, with upgrades available through a mechanic called cassettes. Ammo is limited, and the game includes stealth options and quick-time events. Players also use a special Polymer Glove, which grants abilities like telekinesis, freezing, and electricity, which can be combined with melee and ranged weapons. Ammunition can be enhanced with elemental effects using canisters, which can be looted, crafted, and equipped on both melee and ranged weapons.
