Sony has revealed the first look at the upcoming God of War Ragnarok and shared some details on the project including its game director.
The God of War PS4 ‘reboot’ was directed by Cory Barlog, but he is not returning for the sequel. The role of the game director for the sequel falls to Eric Williams. Check out the debut gameplay footage below.
God of War Ragnarok is confirmed to arrive for both PS4 and PS5. It was originally planned to launch this year but it has been delayed to 2022. Sony didn’t provide a release window for the game during the debut gameplay trailer.
The story in the sequel takes place a few years after the events in the first game. We can also see the ending of God of War repeated here where Kratos confronts Thor. Atreus is also a grown-up teenager now who is capable of hunting on his own.
Here is a brief story synopsis that is taken from the YouTube description of the trailer.
Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as they prepare for the prophesied battle that will end the world. Together, Kratos and Atreus venture deep into the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for war. Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, gather allies from across the realms, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. As the threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer, Kratos and Atreus find themselves choosing between the safety of their family and the safety of the realms…
While only six out of the nine realms were playable in the first game, Sony Santa Monica has expanded the scope and now all nine realms will be accessible. These new realms are Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard.
God of War Ragnarok is currently set for a launch in 2022. It will be released for PS4 and PS5.
