Hello Neighbor 3 has officially entered its Pre-Alpha phase on Steam, offering players an early look at its updated systems and evolving structure. The latest version marks a step beyond the prototype stage, with developers stating that the core narrative and gameplay foundation are now firmly in place.
Set in Raven Brooks, the game begins with players arriving on a corporate assignment to locate a missing employee tied to a critical report. The investigation quickly shifts in tone as the town’s residents display open distrust toward the corporation, and the frequency of disappearances becomes increasingly apparent.
This Pre-Alpha introduces a new objective system designed to guide players through the story while maintaining the series’ open ended exploration. Progression has also been reworked into a loop-based format, removing the need for speedrunning. Each loop resets seamlessly, allowing players to retain objectives and accumulated knowledge rather than starting over completely.
Character behavior has been revised to feel more consistent and readable, with improvements to stealth mechanics making sneaking more reliable. The map of Raven Brooks has also been expanded, adding new locations alongside visual upgrades and reworked environments. Players will also encounter the Neighbor during this phase, marking a notable inclusion for the current build.
Nikita Kolesnikov, the creator of the franchise, outlined the design philosophy behind the update, stating, “We’re building Hello Neighbor 3 around the idea that there is no wrong way to play. With the Pre-Alpha, we’re going to see how players actually use that freedom.”
Additional updates include enhancements to the Guest character’s behavior, the introduction of new items, and visual improvements across objects and character models. Fall damage has also been implemented, adding another layer of consideration to exploration. According to the developers, all content featured in the Pre-Alpha is part of the game’s canonical story, including its protagonist.
The studio noted that the game is approachable for newcomers while still offering added narrative depth for returning players familiar with the series.
