Nintendo Switch is poised to have a solid year next with multiple major game releases including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel.
According to Peer Schneider, Chief Content Officer at IGN, Nintendo appears to have a lot in store for 2022. While we already know some of their games including the new Kirby, Bayonetta 3, and Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel, that could change as they announce and clear most of their upcoming lineup.
While Peer Schneider didn’t provide any insider information in a podcast (via reddit) that discussed The Game Awards post-event and talked about what he heard from some of the people working in Nintendo.
He mentions that the absence of major announcements from Nintendo during The Game Awards 2021 shouldn’t be taken as a sign that they have delayed the BOTW sequel, or that they don’t have anything new in store for 2022. He also mentions the release window of November when talking about the Zelda sequel.
There have been quite a few rumors around a new 3D Donkey Kong in addition to Xenoblade Chronicles 3, so both of these games could launch next year if they are indeed true. Another rumor suggests a brand new 3D Mario, but it doesn’t feel like the game could launch in 2022. If It does end up turning out to be the case, then 2022 is one of the best years for Nintendo Switch if Nintendo can get Zelda sequel out along with the other rumored games.
Just to clear your memory, the confirmed list of 2022 games includes Splatoon 3, Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel, Mario + Rabbits: Sparks of Hope, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and Bayonetta 3. The rumored games include a new 3D Donkey Kong, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Metroid Prime Remake. Obviously there could be a few more surprises along the way, and some stopgaps like remasters to fill in the release schedule, but that will only get confirmed with time.
