PlayStation Network (PSN) is going through an outage right now as per the official status page, and all services are affected by it.
Update 1: All services are restored. PSN should be working fine now. Read the old article below.
According to the official PlayStation Status page, it appears that most of the service for PlayStation Network are completely down. You won’t be able to login into your PlayStation Network account or access any of the other PSN services including the online multiplayer. It is just a strange case of the whole network going down one day, which is just ahead of the holiday period.
According to DownDetector, this outage is basically worldwide with multiple reports about PSN being down for users. This also seems to have an effect for those who were online at the time of the servers going down.
As for how long this will take, Sony hasn’t really given an official timeline for this server outage. An official Tweet from the Ask PlayStation account confirms that Sony is looking into the issues and acknowledges that the network is currently down right now.
We're aware that some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN. Thanks for your patience as we investigate: https://t.co/2oYBpCNHN6

PlayStation Network and Microsoft’s Xbox Live was taken down back in 2015 with an infamous DDoS attack and the perpetrators were soon caught. It is highly unlikely that such an attack will repeat again, but this is another one of the unexpected downtimes when it comes to PlayStation Network.
Let us know if you have managed to get into PlayStation Network and access you account in the comments below.
