PS5 System Update Version 24.04-09.40.00 Brings Improved Discord Support

Sony has rolled out a new system update for the PS5, version 24.04-09.40.00, bringing several enhancements and new features to the console. This update focuses on improving the user experience for both child accounts and their guardians, while also offering new functionalities and performance improvements.

The update allows child accounts to link and add third-party services and applications to their PlayStation Network accounts. This enables younger players to enjoy a broader range of features and benefits that can enhance their gaming experience. Specifically, child accounts can now access services such as Discord voice chat, music streaming through Apple Music and Spotify, and the ability to broadcast and share gameplay via YouTube and Twitch. The availability of these features depends on the user’s age, parental control settings, and their country or region.

To accompany these new capabilities, Sony has introduced additional parental controls. Parents and guardians can now receive notifications and manage their child’s account links with third-party services and applications.

One of the most anticipated features in this update is the ability to start or join Discord voice chats directly from the PS5. Users can access this functionality through the Game Base in the control center by selecting the Discord tab.

The update also includes software improvements for the PULSE Elite wireless headset, PULSE Explore wireless earbuds, and the PlayStation Link USB adapter.

We’ve updated the device software for the PULSE Elite wireless headset, PULSE Explore wireless earbuds, and PlayStation Link USB adapter.
- PlayStation Link connection stability has been improved.
- We’ve fixed an issue with the PULSE Elite wireless headset that caused the power to turn off when the audio cable is connected to the audio input jack.
- On the PULSE Elite wireless headset, the status indicator that turns on after establishing PlayStation Link connection is now less bright.
