Leaked gameplay footage from Nintendo and Retro Studios’ canceled project titled ‘Harmony’ has found its way online.
The YouTube channel sandwich enthusiast has shared gameplay footage from what is allegedly a fully playable but unfinished build of Retro Studios’ canceled title, Harmony. The video begins with the title screen, showing the game’s logo alongside some character silhouettes. The same logo had recently been revealed via a leak involving development builds of several Nintendo Switch titles, including Splatoon 2.
Project Harmony Gameplay Footage
The only available gameplay footage from Retro Studios’ Harmony can be seen below.
Going by the above gameplay footage, Harmony appears to be a 3D platformer with music-based elements. The protagonist wields a wand and is accompanied by a friendly creature. She has the ability to double jump and can perform melee attacks using her wand. The wand can speak to her and guide her during her adventure. A cutscene in the gameplay footage show the wand telling the protagonist to grow a plant to create the path ahead with the help of nearby creatures.
Elsewhere in the footage, the protagonist is seen summoning a creature to help her in shattering a rock that is blocking her way. The player then assumes control of the creature with the girl on its back. Once she jumps off its back, she’s back in control. A combat section shows both her and the creature taking on a group of enemies, with the creature being AI-controlled. The footage also includes a boss fight against a large hostile plant creature, where the protagonist is required to user her song to eradicate the enemy and restore harmony. The footage ends with the girl singing a song for all the nearby animals, bringing them joy.
Earlier this year in January, Kiwi Talkz, a member of gaming enthusiast forum Reset Era, had claimed that Retro Studios had been working on a music role-playing game, where the main mechanic involved singing. It turned out to be a huge disaster for the developer. After years of it going nowhere, Nintendo canceled it altogether. We later learned that this title was called Harmony.
