KOEI TECMO America and Team NINJA have announced that their acclaimed open-world action RPG, Rise of the Ronin, will launch on Steam for Windows PC on March 10, 2025. Initially released on PlayStation 5, the game whisks players away to Japan during the chaotic Bakumatsu period in 1863, diving into a nation torn by internal strife and foreign threats. The Steam version has exclusive PC features like support for ultra-wide monitors, 8K resolution, 120fps, and advanced graphics enhancements.
Set during a pivotal time in Japanese history, Rise of the Ronin follows a masterless samurai (ronin) as they navigate the collapse of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The game features a richly detailed open world that showcases iconic locations like Edo, Kyoto, and Yokohama, all undergoing significant cultural shifts influenced by Western intrusion and internal conflict.
Players will encounter historical figures such as Ryoma Sakamoto, and their decisions will shape the storyline, leading to multiple possible endings. Choices regarding whether to ally with or assassinate major political figures introduce layers of moral complexity to the narrative.
The combat system allows for deep customization. Players can wield various melee weapons, including katanas, odachis, and spears, as well as ranged weapons like bows and firearms. Combat styles can be tailored to fit individual playstyles or to counter specific enemy tactics.
