Sony Increases PS5 Digital Edition Price Across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand

by Greg Martin

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced a price adjustment for the PS5 Digital Edition across multiple regions, including Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The update comes as part of the company’s response to ongoing global economic challenges such as inflation and currency fluctuations.

Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated, “With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand.”

The new pricing structure, which takes effect starting April 14, applies only to the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in most cases. The standard model with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will not see any price increase in Europe or the UK, though it will be affected in Australia and New Zealand.

Here are the revised RRPs:

  • Europe: PS5 Digital Edition – 499.99 euros
  • UK: PS5 Digital Edition – 429.99 pounds
  • Australia:
    • PS5 Digital Edition – 749.95 AUD
    • Standard PS5 – 829.95 AUD
  • New Zealand:
    • PS5 Digital Edition – 859.95 NZD
    • Standard PS5 – 949.95 NZD

Sony confirmed that prices for the PS5 Pro will remain unchanged across all affected regions.

In a related move, the price of the detachable Disc Drive for PS5 will be reduced. Starting April 14, the peripheral will carry the following updated prices:

  • Europe: 79.99 euros
  • UK: 69.99 pounds
  • Australia: 124.95 AUD
  • New Zealand: 139.95 NZD

The company noted that other markets within the EMEA region not specifically listed may also experience adjustments. Consumers in those areas are encouraged to check with local retailers or visit PlayStation Direct for the most accurate pricing information.
