Sony PlayStation Decides To Pull Out of E3 Again This Year

Sony PlayStation has announced that the company will not attend E3 this year. This will make it the second time the hardware giant will skip E3.

Sony skipped E3 2019 citing lack of material to showcase for their presentation so everyone was expecting to see them show up this year. Before an official announcement happened, there were rumors that Sony might be skipping E3 again this year even though they are launching their next-generation console, PlayStation 5, in Holiday 2020.

The rumors turned out to be true after Sony confirmed to GamesIndustry that the company won’t be attending E3 2020. They gave the following statement.

“We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”

The company stated that while they might be missing E3 this year, they will ‘hundreds of consumer events across the globe.’

The ESA, which holds E3 every year has also given the following statement that completely fails to mention the lack of Sony.

“E3 is a signature event celebrating the video game industry and showcasing the people, brands and innovations redefining entertainment loved by billions of people around the world. E3 2020 will be an exciting, high-energy show featuring new experiences, partners, exhibitor spaces, activations, and programming that will entertain new and veteran attendees alike. Exhibitor interest in our new activations is gaining the attention of brands that view E3 as a key opportunity to connect with video game fans worldwide.”

Sony is reportedly planning to reveal its PlayStation 5 during an event later this year. They will likely share details on the price, launch lineup of games, and hardware during this event. There is no official confirmation of this event or date but it has been heavily speculated for now.
