Star Wars Eclipse is reportedly at risk of cancellation, and developer Quantic Dream is in trouble amid employee strikes and planned layoffs.

A new report from Gamekult has shared details on the troubling situation at Quantic Dream, as the studio’s upcoming title, Star Wars Eclipse, is at risk of cancellation. During a strike organized outside the studio’s Paris headquarters, journalists from the French media outlet spoke with employees who claimed that the Star Wars project is “dying a slow death.”

According to the report, the strike coincided with a scheduled visit from a Lucasfilm delegation, which was expected to review the progress of Star Wars Eclipse. Employees used the occasion to highlight concerns about the game’s future and the planned layoffs that could heavily impact development. The crisis reportedly comes from the collapse of Spellcasters Chronicles, Quantic Dream’s multiplayer fantasy MOBA that launched in February, 2026, and got shut down down less than 3 months later. The game’s failure has led to a restructuring plan that may lead to 115 layoffs.

Several developers claimed that the project is already suffering from a lack of resources and organizational issues. Jules, a developer working on Star Wars Eclipse, denied claims that the strike was intended to sabotage development, stating, “On the contrary, we’re trying to save Star Wars Eclipse.” According to them, the additional staff targeted by the restructuring would be essential to completing the game.

Employees also mentioned that Quantic Dream operates under a heavily top-down structure where creative decisions are centralized, resulting in frequent revisions, unclear direction, and wasted work. One developer characterized the work environment as a series of “contradictory injunctions,” saying employees are encouraged to take initiative only to have decisions overturned if they don’t match management’s vision.

According to the report, Star Wars Eclipse has made limited visible progress since its reveal at The Game Awards 2021. Developers also warned that the planned layoffs could jeopardize the project even further. Théo, another employee interviewed during the strike, argued that the game “literally cannot be finished if the redundancy plan is implemented as currently scheduled.”

Developers also expressed frustration over the lack of communication with NetEase, claiming management frequently attributes key decisions to the Chinese publisher while simultaneously insisting that Quantic Dream retains creative independence. Some believe the publisher made the decision to discontinue Spellcasters Chronicles despite studio management wanting to continue support.
