Bandai Namco has confirmed in a recent interview that the upcoming Tales of Arise won’t come with any multiplayer support. The game is set to launch in September.
Tales of series usually offer co-op support in some of its games. Tales of Abyss and Tales of Grace F offered co-op support letting two players play together, but this didn’t carry over to some of the recent games like Tales of Berseria.
In an interview with IGN, producer Yusuke Tomizawa confirms that they are not going to support multiplayer in Tales of Arise. They are more focused on crafting the single-player story content and making sure that there is depth and interaction between the characters.
“So this game is really a standalone game where one person really enjoys the drama and the overall story of the game, we don’t really have any plans currently for a multiplayer mode. But on the other side, we did put a lot of focus on how the characters work together and how they cooperate in the battle and how that plays out in game mechanics.”
If you were hoping to see co-op back in action, that won’t be the case with this new Tales of game at least. On the plus side, the quote makes it clear that the developers are more focused on crafting a better single-player campaign so it should be a delight to play for fans of the JRPG genre.
Tales of Arise will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC, on September 10, 2021.
