Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco Entertainment used Summer Game Fest 2026 to showcase a new look at The Blood of Dawnwalker while also offering the first glimpse at the long-term future of the Dawnwalker franchise. The dark fantasy action RPG is scheduled to launch on September 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The presentation featured two separate trailers. The first focused on the upcoming game itself, while the second surprised viewers by teasing where the broader Dawnwalker saga could head in future installments. The CGI teaser showed protagonist Coen in a modern-day setting, hinting that the franchise’s overarching narrative will eventually extend far beyond the medieval world featured in the first game.
According to Rebel Wolves, future entries in the series will span multiple centuries, regions, and cultures around the world. However, the studio stressed that each installment will tell a standalone story with its own conclusion rather than relying on cliffhangers or unresolved plotlines to connect the series.
Despite the franchise’s larger ambitions, The Blood of Dawnwalker remains firmly rooted in its 14th-century setting. The game follows Coen, a young man who becomes a Dawnwalker, a being caught between humanity and vampirism. Possessing strengths and weaknesses from both worlds, Coen embarks on a journey to save his family from Brencis, the vampire lord who rules the mysterious region of Vale Sangora in the Carpathian Mountains.
The newly released gameplay trailer places particular emphasis on the rivalry between Coen and Brencis, which serves as the central conflict of the story. Rebel Wolves confirmed that this feud will reach a definitive conclusion by the end of the game, with the outcome shaped by player choices made throughout the adventure.
Game Director and Rebel Wolves co-founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged that the modern-day teaser may have caught some players off guard, but reiterated that The Blood of Dawnwalker is designed as a complete and self-contained experience. He explained that the studio wanted to provide an early glimpse into its broader vision for the franchise while maintaining a satisfying conclusion for the first chapter.
Narrative Director Jakub Szamałek also expanded on the studio’s plans, explaining that while future installments will explore different periods of history and new locations, The Blood of Dawnwalker focuses entirely on Coen’s journey within a dark fantasy interpretation of 14th-century Europe. He noted that attentive players may discover hints about the wider saga hidden throughout the game, even though the main storyline reaches a complete ending.
Set against the backdrop of war, plague, and social upheaval, The Blood of Dawnwalker takes place during a period when Europe is being ravaged by conflict and the Black Death. In the midst of this chaos, a powerful group of vampires rises to seize control. As Coen navigates alliances, rivalries, and difficult choices, players will influence both the narrative and gameplay through their decisions.
Developed using Unreal Engine 5, The Blood of Dawnwalker marks the debut title from Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by several developers previously involved with major RPG projects. The game combines open-world exploration, action combat, and player-driven storytelling within a dark fantasy setting inspired by medieval Europe and vampire folklore.
The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on September 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While Coen’s first adventure will conclude with this release, Summer Game Fest’s surprise teaser suggests that the Dawnwalker universe is only just beginning.
