Was GTA VI Recently Rated In Australia? We Investigate

Did Rockstar Games’ next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA VI, recently get rated in Australia? Read ahead in order to learn the truth.

A listing on the Australian Classification Board’s website revealed that GTA VI had apparently been rated on April 2, 2023. From the moment it was discovered, there were doubts regarding its authenticity. Multiple inconsistencies ultimately led to the listing getting exposed as fake.

For starters, GTA VI is rated as “MA 15+ Restricted” in the listing, with mention of “strong sex scenes” and “strong drug use”. However, given how both GTA V and GTA Online are rated “MA 18+ Restricted” by the Australian Classification Board, it’s odd to see a lower rating for the next entry, which is not expected to be any less explicit in its depiction of sexual violence.

More importantly, as seen below, the author and publisher aren’t specified in the GTA VI listing, with Rockstar Games only listed under production company. The name is not capitalized unlike in all previous Rockstar Games’ listings, including the one for GTA V. The country of origin is also not stated.

Furthermore, the listing’s classification number, “CLAS-121212”, is highly suspect, as it is an unlikely sequence of “1”s and “2”s. Putting all of these oddities together leaves little room to doubt that this listing is, in fact, fake.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t necessarily mean that GTA VI is far from its official reveal. According to Tez2 on GTAForums, who is regarded as a trusted source of information on upcoming GTA and Red Dead Redemption titles and updates, GTA VI will be getting an official reveal sometime soon, possibly before the end of 2023.

Take-Two Interactive Software had also hinted on multiple occasions that GTA 6 will arrive sometime during the period of April, 2024 and March, 2025. During the company’s Fiscal First Quarter 2024 earnings call, Take-Two Interactive Software CEO and chairman, Strauss Zelnick, had stated that he remained confident about positioning the business for a significant inflection point in Fiscal 2025, which he believed will include new record levels of operating performance.
