The latest entry in Relic Enertainment’s real-time strategy series, Age of Empires IV, is reportedly on its way to Xbox consoles very soon, based on the latest rumor.
Twitter user Aggiornamenti Lumia, who was also the one to discover a codenamed listing for Age of Empires IV on the Microsoft Store, is now hinting at the announcement of the Xbox console versions, possibly as soon as Gamescom 2022.

The listing previously spotted by the same Twitter user was specifically for the Xbox consoles, suggesting that the console release has been in the works for some time now. The app is available for internal testing on the Xbox Insider hub. It is named “XIP_CAR_JANUARY_2022” where CAR is short for Cardinal. The aforementioned codename on the Microsoft Store belonged to Age of Empires IV.
Real-time strategy video game AOE4 was developed by Relic Entertainment in collaboration with World’s Edge and published by Xbox Game Studios. The fourth Age of Empires game is currently available on Steam, the Windows Store, and PC Game Pass on October 28, 2021.
The game was unveiled by Microsoft on August 21, 2017. Microsoft’s Executive Vice-President of Gaming, Phil Spencer, confirmed on June 11, 2019, that Age of Empires IV was still in development, with more information coming later in 2019. The gameplay for Age of Empires IV was showcased on November 14, 2019, during the X019 event. It showed battles between English and Mongol soldiers in the Middle Ages. The fan preview, which included the Delhi Sultanate and the Chinese in addition to more in-depth gameplay, was released on March 16, 2021.
The game features four single-player campaigns at launch, as stated below.
- The Normans: about Norman conquest of England and conflicts of subsequent English kings (1066–1217)
- The Hundred Years War: a conflict between England and France
- The Mongol Empire: expansion of one of the largest empires of all time
- The Rise of Moscow: about the rise of Grand Duchy of Moscow amongst other Rus’ principalities
